Crunchy Sweet Potato Chips

Have you ever felt so bad seeing your little one beg for something but you just cannot bring yourself to give it to them? Well, I have. My daughter literally begged for a bite on the chips her uncle was eating. As I have been strictly abandoning all unhealthy food, store-bought chips full of salt and processed oil are a no-no for me. But how long can I keep up with her disappointed look every time she hears a no from me? Definitely not long. So I thought I could just make homemade sweet potato chips for her. And believe it or not, chips can be delicious and healthy at the same time. Try for yourself 😉 

Crispy Sweet Potato Chips

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour


  • • 1 large sweet potato
  • • 1 tsp of paprika powder
  • • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • • 2 tsp of Italian herbs (you can add in dried rosemary, thyme and basil if you don’t have access to mixed Italian herbs)
  • • ½ tsp of coconut sugar
  • • 2 tbs of olive oil


  1. Preheat oven to 150 degress C. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. Wash the potato and slice into very thin slices (either with a mandolin or a very sharp knife). Set aside until completely dry.
  3. In a bowl mix thoroughly all other ingredients except for the potato.
  4. Add the potato in the mixture and toss well until all potato slices are well coated.
  5. Transfer the potato on to the baking sheet; make sure the slices do not sit on top of each other. Bake for 30 minutes then turn the potato slices over. Bake further for 30 minutes then turn oven off. Let the chips rest in the oven for another 15 minutes. Take it out and enjoy!

• If your chips are not crispy then you didn’t slice the potato thin enough. So you can either bake for a few minutes more (be sure to keep checking every 5 mins because at this point the chips are really easy to burn) or you can slice your chips thinner next time.

• If  some of your chips are burnt then you might have sliced them unevenly so some cook quicker than others.

• If you don’t have time and want a quick batch of healthy chips, turn up the oven to 200 degrees C, bake for 12 mins then turn the chips over and bake for another 12 mins. 10 mins resting in the oven (oven should be off at this point). The sweet potato chips won’t be as crispy as the above method but it is still delicious and above all healthy 😉
